RACE OF CHAMPIONS WEEKEND AT LAKE ERIE SPEEDWAY JUST A FEW DAYS AWAY
The countdown is on. In just one week, the 74th Annual Race of Champions Weekend takes over Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pennsylvania with three days of high-stakes racing, fan traditions, and one of the biggest celebrations in short track asphalt racing.
?? Friday, September 12 – Sunday, September 14, 2025
At the center of it all: the final 250-lap Race of Champions Modified Series event under its current format, set for Saturday, September 13, alongside championship-deciding races and prestigious specials — including the Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series Triple Crown finale on Sunday, September 14. George Skora III (Eden, N.Y.), winner of the George Decker Memorial at Holland Speedway, currently leads the chase.
Modeled after the great long-distance Modified races at Pocono Raceway, the Lake Erie 250 has quickly become a modern crown jewel. Champions like
Matt Hirschman (Northampton, Pa.), Patrick Emerling (Orchard Park, N.Y.), and Andy Jankowiak (Buffalo, N.Y.) have all etched their names into its history.
“It’s an incredible weekend of racing for all of us,” said Skora. “Lake Erie is a great track, and this weekend always brings some of the best racing of the season. We’re really looking forward to it.”
A Full Weekend Celebration
This year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest in Race of Champions history:
· Nine divisions in action, including all seven Race of Champions “Family of Series,” the WNY Mighty TQ Midgets, and the Chemung Speedrome Hobby Stocks.
· Several divisions making up rainouts from earlier this year, ensuring packed racing programs every day.
· Off-track, fans will enjoy the region’s biggest “Racing Party” atmosphere with camping, activities, and celebrations of the sport’s rich tradition.
“This is the biggest weekend we’ve ever had at Lake Erie Speedway,” said Race of Champions management. “Drivers, teams, and fans will come together not only for great racing, but for a true celebration of history, tradition, and community.”
